Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary Day Tour
Rhinos in Uganda became extinct in 1982 they were present in the north and north west parts of the country and all were poached during the years of civil unrest, in 1997 rhino fund Uganda was established with the sole aim to reintroduce the rhino into Uganda, in 2005 the first rhinos were brought in Ziwa rhino sanctuary a private ranch donated by a well wisher as a temporal home and breeding area for the white rhino under the rhino fund international, the breeding program is under way, with growth in number these will be introduced back in their former home range.
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary day tour Activities
Early departure at 7am in the morning from Kampala heading north of the capital, the sanctuary is about a 2hrs and 30mins drive from Kampala, Early morning pick up from hotel or residence to avoid the traffic through Luwero and then on to Nakasongola Savannah, to the Rhino Sanctuary do the tracking, usual time spent with the rhino is one hour with a guide to accompany you to explain the animal behavior. After trekking, have lunch at the sanctuary and then head back to Kampala arriving late evening, tour ends with drop off at the pickup point.
