ABOUT LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK
Lake Mburo National Park lies in the middle of an extensive rich acacia woodlands one of Uganda’s most spectacular and breath taking game parks in Uganda. Lake Mburo National Park is a gem of a park, conveniently located close to the western high way that connects Kampala to the parks of western Uganda. It is a very special place with a medley of habitats ranging from dry hillsides, rocky outcrops, bushy thickets, open and wooded savannas to forest, lakes and swamps. its sculptured landscape, rolling hills and idyllic lake shores, forest galleries, seasonal and permanent swamps and grassy valleys all support a wealth of wildlife in a tropical setting.
The park is remarkably different from other parks. It’s the best park to view the Gigantic, Eland, Impala, Zebras and Acacia associated birds. Common mammal species include Warthogs, Buffalos, Oribi, Defassa, Waterbucks, Reed bucks and the Eland Antelopes. Leopards and Hyenas are also present and lions have returned to the park after years of poaching and near extinction. Tabora Cisticola, Great snipe, Abyssinian ground horn bill and white winged warbler. Acacia woodland bird species are especially well represented.
Lake Mburo National Park is 371 sq km in size, lake Mburo has a varied landscape full of interest and color. Lake Mburo National Park is refreshing and full of life, given its strategic location near the Kampala-Mbarara highway.
The five lakes within the Park attract hippos and crocodiles while fringing swamps hide secretive papyrus specialists such as the Sitatunga antelope and red, black and yellow papyrus Gonalek. Lake Mburo National park also has an impressive bird list with 332 species recorded including Shoe bills, Papyrus yellow warbler, African fin foot, saddle billed stork, brown chested wattled plover, Carrutter’s Cisticola,
Lake Mburo National Park Activities
Lake Mburo National Park offers a variety of activities which include Nature walks, Game drives, boat cruise, horse rides, bicycle park riding and bird watching. Nature walks are being accompanied by armed game rangers who inform tourists with different information about the various flora and fauna while doing the nature walk, Game drives are always conducted across Lake Mburo National park as you stand a chance to see different kinds of animals and different bird species. Just like the game drive, a boat cruise is another interesting activity in Lake Mburo National Park that offers great scenery of different water animals like crocodiles and different bird species alongside the lake. For birdwatcher, a boat cruise is one recommended activity not to miss in Lake Mburo National Park. Horse riding is one interesting activity done at Lake Mburo by Mihingo lodge though its conducted from inside the park while bike riding is conducted by African all Terrian vehicles which gives a spectacular view of the park’s terrain and wildlife tourist stand a chance of getting near to the animals in the park as they graze.

Lake Mburo National Park Game Tracks
Lake Mburo National Park game tracks offers great views of several Savannah animals and also different bird species can be sighted along the game tracks, which takes you via Ruroko track that passes rock kopjies happens a home of elusive klip sprinter. The lakeside track passes through dense woodland that habitats bush buck and bush duikers, to kigarama hill which provides a panoramic view of Lake Mburo National Park, This lake and seven more can also be seen from the kazuma lookout.

Rwonyo rest camp happens to be the center of the tourism activities in the park since it happens to be the starting point of the nature walks and game drives.
Lake Mburo National Park Salt Licks
Nature walks a round the park more so walks to Rwonyo, enable tourists to visit a natural salt lick that is frequented by the wildlife the walk view is fascinated by a timber scenery.
Lake Mburo National Park Conservation Education Center
Lake Mburo National Park has a conservation education center located 1 km west of sanga gate and this appears to provide accommodation and an education hall for school groups, visitors, seminars and workshops.

The eastern shores of Lake Mburo National Park can be explored by Boat Cruise if they are to explore they entire eastern shores of the park, departing from a jetty at the lake side campsite near Rwonyo always watch out for crocodiles and hippos during the two hour boat cruise. You can also sight a variety of bird species which include Pelicans, Heron, Cormorant fish eagle, Shoe bills and the Fin foot though they are rare.
Your tour guide/driver will take you through the park giving you information about the park and different animal species you encounter, on the drive you will be able to see and come across the different types of antelopes search as Impalas, Reed bucks, Topes, Bush bucks and the giant shy Elands, though you stand chances to see wart hogs, zebras, Cape Buffaloes and on a lucky you can come across a leopard though they are shy animals which don’t like disclosing them selves in open places, all that is done with an opportunity to rich out bird life.
With the game drive done we head for the Boat cruise on lake Mburo, you will have the opportunity to view hippos, crocodile and plenty of aquatic bird life which includes the king fisher’s, fish Eagles and not to be missed the endemic African fin foot. Depending on the boat allotment there will be a lunch break, here you will be advised by your driver guide, there plenty of places to have lunch either at the budget lake side restaurant or at any of the upscale lodge restaurants.
After your boat cruise as we wide up the visit of the park and head back to Kampala we still do animal viewing as we exit the park taking different tracks, as we head for Kampala we will make a stop over at the famous equator marker, as you are well aware the globe has three major latitudinal lines running across it that is the tropic of Capricorn, Cancer and the equator which is the line zero along this line you will be at the center of the earth, in addition to this there numerous craft shops you can visit, after taking photos, we continue to Kampala, expect a late arrival back and this will be the end of our trip.
